First Bells & Big Feelings: Young Innovators Share Their First School Memories

Future-ready education is all about preparing children for a world of constant change. It’s about building memorable, positive experiences right from the very first day they walk into preschool. These early moments shape their love for learning and their confidence to take on new challenges. At Young Innovators, we believe in nurturing this spirit from the very beginning.

To understand the real impact of this approach, there’s no one better to hear from than the students themselves. We had the pleasure of sitting down with two very special guests, siblings Lucas and Emma Wilson, to talk about their earliest school memories and the lessons they’ve carried with them.

Starting Young: A Breathtaking Experience

Lucas joined the Young Innovators family when he was just 18 months old. Looking back, he describes the experience as simply “breathtaking.” For him, it was more than just a school; it was where he met his first friends, including his best friend. His earliest memories aren’t of tedious lessons, but of joyful, engaging activities—learning the ABCs, counting, and even performing a special Thanksgiving song for the parents.

This hands-on approach is central to the Young Innovators way. Lucas fondly recalls the freedom to create, whether it was sculpting with a giant bucket of Play-Doh or collaborating with classmates to build an entire fort out of cardboard boxes, complete with its own ball pit! These weren’t just fun projects; they were early lessons in teamwork, community, and bringing big ideas to life.

Embracing Challenges with Confidence

One of the most powerful mindsets we aim to instill is the courage to embrace challenges without the fear of failure. When asked about tackling a big project like the cardboard fort, Lucas admitted, “I was a little scared that we might mess something up. But I kept on telling myself, ‘We got this.'”

This confidence is what allows innovation to flourish. By exploring passions through enrichment programs like coding with Bee-Bots and Dash robots or creating original stories in a book club, students learn to trust their abilities. Lucas, now an aspiring author and coder, started his own book club with 28 members, where they not only read books but also collaborate to write and illustrate their own, often based on their real-life school experiences.

Words of Wisdom from Young Innovators

When asked what advice they would give to new students, both Lucas and Emma shared simple yet profound messages.

Emma, who also started at a very young age, wants every child to know: “You can do anything that you put your mind to.”

Lucas’s advice is a powerful reminder to stay resilient: “You got this. If you try your hardest, you’re not going to fail… you’re going to succeed. Keep calm and carry on.”

It truly takes a village to raise a child, and we are incredibly proud to be part of the journey for amazing young innovators like Lucas and Emma. Their creativity, confidence, and passion for learning are a testament to what’s possible when we empower children from the very start.
